From Ru\u017eomberok, take road 59 (E77) southbound towards Bansk\u00e1 Bystrica. Approximately 6 km from Ru\u017eomberok, you will enter the district of Biely Potok. On the right, you will pass the Restaurant Vl\u010d\u00ed Dvor. Immediately after, turn right, cross the bridge over the Rev\u00faca River, then turn right again. After about 300 metres, turn left at the replica of the Vlkol\u00ednec belfry. The road through Trlensk\u00e1 Valley will lead you to your destination. Signposts along the way will help to navigate you.<br \/>\nPlease note the speed limit through Trlensk\u00e1 Valley is restricted due to the narrow road and the presence of pedestrians and cyclists \u2013 please be considerate.<br \/>\nMotor vehicles are not permitted to enter the village itself.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #222222;\">By private coach (organised groups):<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\"><span style=\"color: #222222;\">Coaches may only reach as far as the car park in Trlensk\u00e1 Valley. They cannot continue beyond this point.<br \/>\nVisitors must walk the remaining distance.<br \/>\n<\/span><strong><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: inherit, serif;\"><i>1. On foot along the access road:<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><b>\u00a0<\/b><\/span><span style=\"color: #222222;\">From the car park, it takes about 15 minutes to reach Vlkol\u00ednec along the access road. The path is roughly 1.1 km long and includes a covered rest area. Along the way, you will find two springs, with a view of the Ve\u013ek\u00e1 Fatra mountains opening up at the last bend.<br \/>\n<\/span><strong><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: inherit, serif;\"><i>2. On foot along the H\u00f4rka trail:<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/strong><strong><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: inherit, serif;\"><i>:<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/strong><em><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: inherit, serif;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/em><span style=\"color: #222222;\">From the car park, continue on the road to Vlkol\u00ednec past the spring, and at the point where the road crosses a stream, turn right off the road into H\u00f4rka valley. The trail follows the stream into Vlkol\u00ednec. Along the way, there are educational panels, a renovated hay hut, and benches for resting. This 0.8 km route also takes about 15 minutes, plus extra time if you stop to read the information panels.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #222222;\">By taxi:<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #222222; font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">You can reach Vlkol\u00ednec by taxi from the centre of Ru\u017eomberok, which is 11 km away. A one-way fare typically ranges from \u20ac15 to \u20ac20, depending on the taxi service used.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #222222;\">By bike:<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #222222; font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Three marked cycle routes pass through Vlkol\u00ednec, each approaching from a different direction:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\"><em><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: inherit, serif;\"><b>1. Through Trlensk\u00e1 Valley:<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/em><span style=\"color: #222222;\">\u00a0From the railway (coach) station, take red cycle route 006 across the V\u00e1h River. Shortly after, cross another bridge over the Rev\u00faca River and continue on red route 033. After crossing the Rev\u00faca again, the educational cycle trail \u201cCyklokorytni\u010dka\u201d runs alongside the route until the replica belfry in front of Trlensk\u00e1 Valley, where you leave it. From here, follow the yellow cycle route 8419 leading into Vlkol\u00ednec. The entire 10.4 km route is paved with asphalt roads and paths. This is the easiest route with the least elevation gain, making it suitable for road bikes, but please bear in mind that it runs along country roads with normal traffic.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\"><em><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: inherit, serif;\"><b>2. Below Krkav\u00e1 Skala (\u201cRaven Rock\u201d):<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/em><em><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: inherit, serif;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/em><span style=\"color: #222222;\">From the railway (coach) station, take red cycle route 006 across the V\u00e1h River. Shortly after, cross another bridge over the Rev\u00faca River and continue on red route 033. Before the bridge on the red route, turn right onto green route 5422. This path leads beneath the guesthouse Penzi\u00f3n Gejd\u00e1k, where the asphalt ends and a gravel road begins, running through meadows alongside Krkav\u00e1 Skala into Vlkol\u00ednec. The 7.2 km route passes along paved roads for 4 km and gravel for 3.2 km. This route is more challenging as it has greater elevation and is unsuitable for road bikes. From Penzi\u00f3n Gejd\u00e1k onwards, it follows a road with no car traffic.<br \/>\n<\/span><strong><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: inherit, serif;\"><i><br \/>\n3. Across Vlkol\u00ednec Meadows:<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #222222;\">\u00a0From the railway (coach) station, take red cycle route 006 across the V\u00e1h River. Shortly after, cross another bridge over the Rev\u00faca River and continue right on blue route 2418. This route takes you through the Kalv\u00e1ria (Calvary) area of Ru\u017eomberok into a forest. When leaving the forest, turn off the tarmac onto the reinforced dirt road. Soon you reach a farm below Sidorov, where you leave the blue route and continue on a dirt road\/path to the top of Vlkol\u00ednec Meadows, following yellow cycle route 8419. The descent into Vlkol\u00ednec is on a paved path\/trail. On this stretch, cyclists must dismount and push their bikes. This is for safety reasons, especially on the steep final section. The 7.2 km route passes along asphalt roads for 5.5 km and reinforced and dirt gravel roads for 1.7 km. This route is more challenging as it has the most elevation and is unsuitable for road bikes. From Kalv\u00e1ria to Vlkol\u00ednec Meadows, the route has restricted vehicle access (leading to the Malin\u00f4 Brdo resort), while from the meadows to Vlkol\u00ednec it is a car-free dirt road\/trail.<br \/>\nIn Vlkol\u00ednec itself, cycling is prohibited, and bicycles must be pushed at all times. Please observe all traffic rules and remember that pedestrians have priority over cyclists on all routes.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #222222;\">On foot:<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\"><span style=\"color: #222222;\">Vlkol\u00ednec can be reached via several hiking trails, nature trails, and even unmarked tracks, offering routes of differing lengths and levels of difficulty.<br \/>\n<\/span><strong><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: inherit, serif;\"><i><br \/>\n<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/strong><strong><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: inherit, serif;\"><i>1. Through Trlensk\u00e1 Valley from Biely Potok:<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #222222;\">\u00a0This route follows the access road into Vlkol\u00ednec and is mostly marked with cycle route signs.<br \/>\nThere are two options for starting the trail:<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: inherit, serif;\"><i>(a) From the municipal bus stop \u201cBiely Potok\u201d<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #222222;\">, reachable by bus from Ru\u017eomberok.<\/span><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><br \/>\nAfter alighting, follow the road leading away from the town, past family houses (running parallel to the main road). After the last house, there is a footbridge across the Rev\u00faca River. Cross the river and turn right. From this point, both options merge.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: inherit, serif;\"><i>(b) From the regional bus stop<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><b>\u00a0<\/b><\/span><span style=\"color: #222222;\"> \u201cRu\u017eomberok, Biely Potok, Trlensk\u00e1 dolina\u201d, served by suburban buses from Ru\u017eomberok.<br \/>\nAfter getting off the bus, follow the road that branches off from the main road. After a few metres, cross the Rev\u00faca River via the bridge and turn right. From here, the route is identical to option (a).<br \/>\nContinue along the road until you reach the replica of the Vlkol\u00ednec belfry. Turn left and, a few steps further on, cross another bridge. Carry on through Trlensk\u00e1 Valley, where you will first come across a water spring, followed by educational panels on local points of interest. Where the road bends to the right, there is a rest area, with more information boards. Continue along the road for about 300 metres until you reach a small bridge. Here, you have two options:<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: inherit, serif;\"><i>(a) Via H\u00f4rka trail<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/strong><strong><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: inherit, serif;\"><i>:<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #222222;\">\u00a0leave the road (go right) and descend into the H\u00f4rka Valley. The trail follows the stream into Vlkol\u00ednec. Along the way, there are educational panels, a renovated hay hut, and benches for resting.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: inherit, serif;\"><i>(b) Via the access road:<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #222222;\">\u00a0continue along the road, passing another spring and, a little further on, a sheltered rest stop. Just before reaching Vlkol\u00ednec, a bend in the road provides a lovely view of the Ve\u013ek\u00e1 Fatra mountain range.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: inherit, serif;\"><i>2. Following the yellow trail from Biely Potok:<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><b>\u00a0<\/b><\/span><span style=\"color: #222222;\">This route climbs steeply from the Biely Potok district along a path above Vlkol\u00ednec, before descending into the village. It is marked with yellow hiking trail signs.<br \/>\nBegin at the \u201cPri moste\u201d stop (for municipal buses) or the \u201cRu\u017eomberok, Biely Potok, pri moste\u201d stop (for regional buses), served by buses from Ru\u017eomberok.<br \/>\nFollow the yellow-marked trail, crossing the Rev\u00faca River over the bridge and continuing to the end of the street. Turn right, then shortly afterwards, turn left uphill between the houses. After the last house on the left, turn left again to reach a meadow with views of the surrounding landscape. Climb uphill through the meadow until you reach the forest. A woodland path leads to a small clearing with a raised hide and feeding stations for game (hidden among the trees). Bear slightly left and follow the well-trodden footpath to another meadow below Sidorovo peak. Cross the meadow to reach a reinforced road and turn left. The road offers scenic views and soon leads directly into Vlkol\u00ednec.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: inherit, serif;\"><i>3. Following the green trail from Ru\u017eomberok town centre:<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #222222;\">\u00a0This route begins in the centre of Ru\u017eomberok, follows the old Royal Way, skirts Sidorovo peak above Vlkol\u00ednec, and descends into the village. It is mostly marked with green hiking trail signs.<br \/>\nStart your walk in front of the Municipal Authority building by the Marian Column. Follow the green trail through a lime tree avenue, past the Jesuit church, and turn left at the crossroads. Continue past houses and blocks of flats through the Bani\u010dn\u00e9 housing estate. After the last building on the street called \u201cCesta na Vlkol\u00ednec\u201d, turn left onto the gravel path. Pass the allotments and join the paved road. Turn right \u2013 this road leads below the guesthouse Penzi\u00f3n Gejd\u00e1k, though your route does not go there. Continue along the surfaced road, passing more allotments and the edge of a forest, through meadows, until you reach the natural monument Krkav\u00e1 Skala. Here, there is an educational panel and a rest stop. At this point, you have two options:<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: inherit, serif;\"><i>(a) Via the cycle trail:<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #222222;\">\u00a0From Krkav\u00e1 Skala, follow the road to the meadows and descend into Vlkol\u00ednec. This is an easy route that offers panoramic views.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: inherit, serif;\"><i>(b) Via the hiking trail:<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/strong><em><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: inherit, serif;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/em><span style=\"color: #222222;\">A few metres beyond Krkav\u00e1 Skala, turn right onto the path that runs through the forest above Vlkol\u00ednec. The trail occasionally reveals glimpses of the village and its surroundings. Continue until you join a gravel road, then turn left downhill. At this point, the path connects with the yellow-marked hiking trail, which leads into Vlkol\u00ednec. This route is slightly more demanding, as it climbs higher above the village than the road option.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: inherit, serif;\"><i>4. Following the blue trail from Ru\u017eomberok town centre:<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/strong><em><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: inherit, serif;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/em><span style=\"color: #222222;\">This route leads from Ru\u017eomberok along the access road towards Malin\u00f4 Brdo. It takes you to Vlkol\u00ednec Meadows, from where you descend into the village. It is mostly marked with blue and yellow hiking trail signs.<br \/>\nStart your walk in front of the Municipal Authority building by the Marian Column. Follow the blue trail through a lime tree avenue, past the Jesuit church, towards the Kalv\u00e1ria area of Ru\u017eomberok. Pass between the chapels, and climb to the viewpoint offering panoramic views of the town. The trail then continues along a road to a forest. Here, you can either remain on the road (also marked as a blue cycle route), or take the parallel forest path on the left. Both options rejoin at the point where the path emerges from the forest onto Vlkol\u00ednec Meadows. At the meadows, turn left off the tarmac onto a reinforced trail \u2013 leaving the blue trail and continuing along the yellow marked hiking trail. You pass a shelter and several educational panels on the way to the Farm under Sidorovo. At the farm, turn left along the ridge and descend past another shelter with an information panel to the spring (which is often dry in summer). The gravel path here then leads you into Vlkol\u00ednec.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: inherit, serif;\"><i>5. Following the yellow trail from Hrabovo:<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/strong><em><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: inherit, serif;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/em><span style=\"color: #222222;\">The route begins at Hrabovo\u2019s lower cable car station to Malin\u00f4 Brdo, and follows the access road to that resort. It takes you to Vlkol\u00ednec Meadows, from where you descend into the village. It is marked with yellow hiking trail signs.<br \/>\nYou can reach the lower station in Hrabovo by car, taxi, on foot, or by Ru\u017eomberok\u2019s public transport (the \u201cHrabovo, kone\u010dn\u00e1\u201d bus stop). Buses run from the railway station (\u201c\u017delezni\u010dn\u00e1 stanica\u201d stop).<br \/>\nFrom the car park in Hrabovo, follow the yellow-marked trail past a row of cottages above the Ru\u017eomberok Kalv\u00e1ria (Calvary), where you can enjoy a panoramic view of the town. The trail then continues to the right along a road to a forest. Here, you can either remain on the road (also marked as a blue cycle route), or take the parallel forest path on the left. Both options rejoin at the point where the path emerges from the forest onto Vlkol\u00ednec Meadows. From the upper cable car station at Malin\u00f4 Brdo:<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/strong><em><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: inherit, serif;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/em><span style=\"color: #222222;\">This route is ideal if you would like to visit Vlkol\u00ednec via the cable car leading to Malin\u00f4 Brdo. It is marked with blue and yellow hiking trail signs.<br \/>\nYou can reach the lower station in Hrabovo by car, taxi, on foot, or by Ru\u017eomberok\u2019s public transport (the \u201cHrabovo, kone\u010dn\u00e1\u201d bus stop). Buses run from the railway station (\u201c\u017delezni\u010dn\u00e1 stanica\u201d stop).<br \/>\nFrom Hrabovo, take the cable car (check the operating hours at www.skipark.sk or www.bikepark.sk). When you reach the upper station at Malin\u00f4 Brdo, descend the path to the cottage Chata Daria, where you\u2019ll find a tourist signpost. Follow the blue-marked trail down beneath the rocky outcrop known as Hal\u00edn. At Vlkol\u00ednec Meadows, turn right at the tourist signpost here, off the tarmac onto a reinforced trail \u2013 leaving the blue trail and continuing along the yellow marked hiking trail. You pass a shelter and several educational panels on the way to the Farm under Sidorovo. At the farm, turn left along the ridge and descend past another shelter with an information panel to the spring (which is often dry in summer). The gravel path here then leads you into Vlkol\u00ednec.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: inherit, serif;\"><i>7. Following the red trail over Sidorovo from central Ru\u017eomberok:<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/strong><em><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: inherit, serif;\"><b>\u00a0<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/em><span style=\"color: #222222;\">This route begins in the centre of Ru\u017eomberok, follows the Sidorovo ridge to its summit, then descends to Vlkol\u00ednec Meadows and into the village. It is marked with red and yellow hiking trail signs.<br \/>\nStart your walk in front of the Municipal Authority building by the Marian Column. Follow the red trail through a lime tree avenue, past the Jesuit church, towards the Kalv\u00e1ria area of Ru\u017eomberok. Pass between the chapels, and climb to the viewpoint offering panoramic views of the town. At the signpost, leave the tarmac by turning left and pass across the meadow to reach the ridge. Enter the forest path, which leads past the site of a former ski jump. About halfway up, a detour to Ve\u013ek\u00e1 Skala is worthwhile for its scenic viewpoint. Continue on to the summit of Sidorovo, where a viewing terrace offers a striking vista over Vlkol\u00ednec. Descend steeply through the woodland and boulders. Near the end of the descent, a view opens onto the Hal\u00edn rock massif. You arrive at the ridge of Vlkol\u00ednec Meadows, marked by a trail signpost. Continue left on the yellow-marked trail, passing a shelter and information panel, then on to a spring (which may be dry in summer). The gravel path here then leads you into Vlkol\u00ednec.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: inherit, serif;\"><i>8. Via the Bear Trail from Hrabovo:<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #222222;\">\u00a0An educational trail for children, leading from Hrabovo (starting at the lower cable car station to Malin\u00f4 Brdo) to Vlkol\u00ednec Meadows. Most of this route is not signposted.<br \/>\nYou can reach the lower station in Hrabovo by car, taxi, on foot, or by Ru\u017eomberok\u2019s public transport (the \u201cHrabovo, kone\u010dn\u00e1\u201d bus stop). Buses run from the railway station (\u201c\u017delezni\u010dn\u00e1 stanica\u201d stop).<br \/>\nThe Bear Trail (<\/span><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><i>Medvedia cesta<\/i><\/span><span style=\"color: #222222;\">) starts just below the car park at the lower cable car station by a small bridge over a stream that feeds into the reservoir. Follow the asphalt road past blocks of flats and cabins. After the last cabin, turn left onto a forest track crossing the ski slope beneath the cable car. Along the way, stop at information panels to learn about Slovakia\u2019s largest predator, the brown bear. The Bear Trail ends on Vlkol\u00ednec Meadows, at the tourist signpost and shelter. From there, follow the yellow-marked hiking trail on the gravel path to the Farm beneath Sidorovo. At the farm, turn left along the ridge and descend past a shelter with an information panel to the spring (which is often dry in summer). The gravel path here then leads you into Vlkol\u00ednec.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: inherit, serif;\"><i>9. Via Uhlisko (Bird Trail) from Biely Potok:<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #222222;\">\u00a0The route via Uhlisko has long been the shortest and preferred route for Vlkol\u00ednec locals. It is unmarked.<br \/>\nFrom the municipal bus stop \u201cDo Uhliska\u201d, reachable by bus from Ru\u017eomberok, cross the field in the direction of the Rev\u00faca River. A Bird Trail educational panel stands at the stop. Cross the footbridge and follow the road. Turn right briefly before taking a left past family houses.
