Wooden log-type bell tower

– the wooden log-type bell tower is one of the dominant features of Vlkolínec
– it is situated in the centre of Vlkolínec
– it is the oldest building in Vlkolínec, it was built in 1770
– in the past, it was used to announce important events (fires and other hazards, funerals, masses, end of a fasting period…)
– it also served as a timekeeping instrument, as it was rung three times a day: in the morning, at noon and in the evening
– it represents a border between the lower end and the upper end of Vlkolínec
– it has a square floor plan
– it has a shape of a pyramid
– it is over seven metres high
– it has a stone underpinning, with a log base on top of it
– the underpinning separates the wooden parts of the building from the ground
– the walls are covered with boards in the upper section and with shingles in the bottom section
– it has a wooden shingle roof
– there is a wooden cross at the top of the roof
– the entrance door is situated at the northern side of the bell tower
– above the door, there is a small roof made of two rows of shingles
– inside the tower, there is a bell
– the bell tower is a national cultural monument registered under number 2856/1
